What is Korean Kickboxing?
Korean Kickboxing is a martial art which combines the footwork and kicks of Taekwon-Do with the punching techniques of Western Boxing. To dodge a punch in Korean Kickboxing, you use the moves of Western Boxing and slip the punch bobbing or weaving out of the way of harm. Also, like Western Boxing, Korean Kickboxing does not use open-handed striking or blocking techniques. Korean Kickboxing’s footwork is made mostly of Taekwon-Do slides and quick steps.
Taekwon-Do elements can be seen in the front push kick, 180° and 360° back kicks, side kick, spinning hook kick and of course the 360° turning kick (tornado kick).
Competitions
We compete in kickboxing competitions under Light Contact / Continuous. Light Contact Kickboxing should be executed with well controlled techniques. During a light contact bout, competitors fight continuously until the central referee command STOP or BREAK. Equal emphasis put on hand and foot techniques, all techniques (kicks and punches) are strictly controlled and points are only scored during a bout to legal target areas.
The central referee does not score during a bout but ensures the fighters compete in line with the appropriate rules of engagement. The corner judges score the bout at the end of the fight where the winner is declared who has the majority decision.
